Thank you meal at Allos for Owen McMahon
27/06/2026
Some evenings remind you exactly where it all began - and who helped you get there.
A wonderful evening in Allos Restaurant, Listowel, last night.
The conversation quickly moved from legal practice to stories from the apprenticeship days, with plenty of laughter, a little harmless exaggeration (as any good solicitor would expect!), and wonderful memories of Owen and Garry, who founded P.G. McMahon Solicitors in the early 1960s. Their commitment to training young solicitors has left a lasting legacy that continues today through those fortunate enough to have learned from them.
Judy deserves a special mention too. Behind every dedicated solicitor is often someone providing constant support, encouragement and patience—and Judy certainly played her part throughout the years.
The meal was superb, the company even better, and the stories… well, thankfully they were protected by solicitor-client privilege!
A huge thank you to Séamus Given for having the foresight to organise a dinner for the former apprentices from Listowel of P.G. McMahon Solicitors to thank Owen McMahon, who retired last October after a lifetime of dedication to the profession.
Around the table were Owen and his wife Judy, Owen's daughter Máire McMahon McMahon of Donal T. Ryan Solicitors, Tipperary, Seamus Given of Arthur Cox, Solicitors Dublin, Catherine Stack of Stone Solicitors, Wexford, and myself. Although we're now practising in different parts of the country, we all have one thing in common—we got our start under the guidance of Owen and the late Garry McMahon. The conversation quickly moved from legal practice to stories from the apprenticeship days, with plenty of laughter, a little harmless exaggeration (as any good solicitor would expect!), and wonderful memories of Owen and Garry, who founded P.G. Owen, thank you for everything you did for so many of us at the beginning of our legal careers. Enjoy every minute of your well-earned retirement—you've certainly earned it.
